On November 19, at Hotel Rotana, Awamedica, an international pharmaceuticals company based in Erbil, organised a Symposium with two famous Professors in Cardiology from Sweden as main lecturers.
Following an introduction and welcome by Professor Bahram Resul, CEO of Awamedica, and a message from Ms.Annika Svärdström, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, the symposium started.
Professor Gunnar Nyberg from Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg lectured about Non-invasive determination of arterial elasticity, a new approach in judging the condition of the vascular system, important for diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases.
Professor Anders Waldenström from University of Umeå lectured about Recent advances in the treatment of heart failure, and described front-line cardiology research results.
Both lecturers have made distinguished academic careers in Sweden and in other countries, are members of some of the most prestigious international scientific associations and have published hundreds of articles in leading medical journals.
The Symposium was attended by some forty cardiologists from Erbil, Suleimanieh and Dohok, by ten students in medicine from University Kurdistan Hawler and their cardiology teachers, and also by representatives from Awamedica’s partner company Sanofi.
The event was the first in a series of Awamedica Swedish Symposia, with Swedish expert lecturers covering different medical specialities.
